Falsely Reported Calls for Service

This directive informs Department members of procedures when effecting arrests for falsely reported calls for service.
II.Relevant Statutes
Department members who respond to a call for service and determine it to be falsely reported will:
  • A.determine if issuing an Administrative Notice of Ordinance Violation (ANOV) citation would be effective and, if so, follow procedures consistent with the Department directive entitled “Municipal Administrative Hearings” or
  • B.effect an arrest if there is a reasonable likelihood that the offense will continue, recur, or that life or property will be endangered if the violator is not arrested and removed from the scene of the occurrence.
    • 1.Complete all procedures and paperwork consistent with the Department directive entitled “Processing Persons Under Department Control.”
    • 2.Notifications of the arrest will be made to:
      • a.Citywide 7,
      • b.The Deputy Corporation Counsel and provide the following information:
        • (1)Offender’s Name,
        • (2)Date of Arrest,
        • (3)Location of arrest,
        • (4)Records Division (RD) number, and
        • (5)Central Booking (CB) number.
          During non-business hours leave a voice-mail message.
    • 3.Send copies of all pertinent documents relative to the arrest, via the police Document Services Section, to: The Deputy Corporation Counsel, Municipal Prosecutions Division.
