City of Chicago Employee Arrest Notification

This directive provides notification procedures to be followed when a City of Chicago employee is arrested for a criminal and/or quasi-criminal offense.
When a person has been identified as an employee of the City of Chicago and is charged with a felony, misdemeanor or ordinance violation, including traffic offenses returnable to a major or minor court room at the Traffic Court or city vehicle sticker and state license plate violations, the arresting officer will immediately notify:
  • A.the station supervisor of the district of arrest; and
  • B.the Crime Prevention and Information Center (CPIC), and provide the following information, in sequence, to the member assigned to CPIC:
    • 1.Name of Arrestee.
    • 2.Job title and Department.
    • 3.Address of arrestee.
    • 4.Date of birth.
    • 5.Record Division Number (RD) or Traffic Citation Number(s), as appropriate.
    • 6.Date, Time and District of arrest.
    • 7.Charge(s) placed.
    • 8.Court Branch, location, date and time.
    • 9.Name of arresting officer(s), star number(s) and district/unit of assignment.
  • C.enter the name of the person notified and the date and time the notification was made in the narrative of any applicable Department reports, i.e., case report, Arrest Report, Miscellaneous Incident Exception Report (CPD-11.419), etc.
  • A.Supervisory members will ensure compliance with the required notification procedure outlined in this directive.
  • B.District station supervisors will be responsible for the inclusion of all pertinent information relative to the arrest of a City of Chicago employee in their respective districts on the Watch Incident Log (CPD-21.916).
  • C.Members of CPIC receiving a notification relating to the arrest of a City of Chicago employee from a Department member or outside agency will make an immediate notification to the Office of the City of Chicago Inspector General.
