I.TROUSERS—WOOL
  • A.DESIGN:
    Trousers will be manufactured from a male/female uniform pattern. The trousers will incorporate a plain front, two quarter top front pockets, two hip pockets, and one watch pocket. The trousers will have plain buttons, belt loops, and may have suspender buttons.
  • B.MATERIAL:
    • 1.Raeford Worsted wool, 14 ounces, #460-96
    • 2.Metcalf Bros wool, 14 ounces, #386-14
  • C.COLOR:
    Dark navy blue
  • D.CONSTRUCTION:
    • 1.Pockets: The pocketing fabric will be #2.50 heavy drill, 72 by 60 count.
      • a.Front Pockets: Two side on-seam pockets, with outside opening to measure 7 inches. Pockets will not be less than 11 inches deep measured from bottom of band to bottom of pocket.
      • b.Hip Pockets: Will have a minimum of opening of 6 ½ inches and a minimum depth of 7 ½ inches measured from the bottom of the pocket opening. The left hip pocket will have a tab to button.
      • c.Watch Pocket: set on the right side in the waistband seam.
    • 2.Waistband: The trousers will be made with a waistband system that provides the wearer with a comfortable fit. The waistband will be constructed using the "closed method" and shall measure 2 inches wide when finished. The waistband shall have reinforced hook and eye closure (crush proof type). The waistband must be topstitched 1/16 inch below the waistband seam for additional strength. The top portion of the inside of the waistband is to consist of the same fabric as used for pocketing (70% polyester, 30% cotton) .The fabric is to be cut on the bias for maximal comfort. The waistband will be 1 ¾ inches wide and to finish 1 1/8 inches wide after construction.
    • 3.Fly: Will have a metal memory lock zipper. There will be button hole on the inside right fly. The right fly will be lined with the same fabric as the waistband curtain and pocketing. The fly lining will be sewn to the left fly below the zipper in a neat durable manner. A button will be located on the left fly corresponding with the buttonhole. There will be a firm straight bar-tack at the fly going through the zipper tape.
    • 4.Belt Loops: There will be a minimum of seven belt loops, 1 inch in width of double thickness. Each loop must have a nonwoven interlining. All loops must be "dropped" with the bottom loop tacked to the trouser. The top of all belt loops (except for the center back loop) will be caught into the waistband curtain seam. The top of the center back loop will be tacked to the waistband.
    • 5.Seams: All seams for all ranks will be plain.
    • 6.Bottoms: Plain bottom, finished with cloth heel reinforcement.
    • 7.Special Instructions to Cutter: The finished length of the trouser is to be cut so that the front edge of the trouser touches the shoe in a straight line. The finished width must not be less than 16 inches or more than 19 inches wide.
    • 8.Crotch Lining: Linen or cotton, stay taped.
    • 9.Outlets: There will be a 2 inch outlet at the waist and a 2 inch turnup at the bottom.
    • 10.Pressing: Must be neatly pressed on hothead presses and properly shaped. Outseams and inseams must be pressed open. Trousers must be quality-control checked to assure a professional finish.
    • 11.Sizing: Standard male and female sizing.
  • E.MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS/LABELS:
    All garments will be permanently labeled with the manufacturer country of origin, size, fiber content, and care instructions. A label indicating that the garment is a Chicago Police Department approved item will be sewn inside the back right pocket. The label will include the date of manufacture. No manufacturer or representative may suggest that a garment is an approved Chicago Police Department garment without prior inspection of a completed sample and written authorization of the Director, Research and Development Division, Chicago Police Department.
II.TROUSERS—WOOL, FEMALE ALTERNATE
  • A.DESIGN:
    The trousers will be a plain pair of straight legged pants with allowance for modified flare. The trousers will have plain buttons, belt loops, and may have suspender buttons.
  • B.MATERIAL:
    • 1.Raeford Worsted wool, 14 ounces, #460-96
    • 2.Metcalf Bros wool, 14 ounces, #386-14
  • C.COLOR:
    Dark navy blue
  • D.CONSTRUCTION:
    • 1.Pockets: The pocketing fabric will be #2.50 heavy drill, 72 by 60 count.
      • a.Front Pockets: Two western style pockets.
      • b.Hip Pockets: Will have a minimum of opening of 6 ½ inches and an approximate depth of 9 inches measured from the bottom of the pocket opening.
    • 2.Waistband: The trouser will be made with a waistband system that provides the wearer with a comfortable fit. The waistband will be constructed using the "closed method" and shall measure 2 inches wide when finished. Lining will be Snugtex or similar. Closure adjusting size of waistband using hook and loop fastener.
    • 3.Fly: Will have a metal memory lock zipper. There will be button hole on the inside right fly. The right fly will be lined with the same fabric as the waistband curtain and pocketing. The fly lining will be sewn to the left fly below the zipper in a neat durable manner. A button will be located on the left fly corresponding with the buttonhole. There will be a firm straight bar-tack at the fly going through the zipper tape.
