I.Purpose
This specification describes holsters for prescribed, alternate, and auxiliary firearms.
II.HOLSTER – UNIFORMED MEMBERS ASSIGNED TO FIELD DUTIES HIRED AFTER 01 JANUARY 2008
  • A.DESIGN
    The holster will be designed so that:
    • 1.when the member is standing, the firearm will be in a vertical or near vertical position.
    • 2.the firearm is not canted in excess of 45 degrees in any direction.
    • 3.The holster will affix to a 2 ¼ inch duty belt.
    • 4.the bottom of the holster does not extend more than 10 inches below the top of the trouser.
    • 5.the holster hangs parallel to the outside seam of the trouser leg.
    • 6.the inside grip of the firearm does not extend more than 3 inches from the horizontal form of the holster’s shank.
    • 7.the muzzle of the firearm does not extend more than ½ inch below the bottom of the holster.
  • B.MATERIALS
    • 1.Holsters may be constructed of leather, leather-like synthetic materials, or a rigid composite material including, but not limited to, Kydex, Zytel, or carbon-fiber.
    • 2.All hardware will be silver colored or black metal.
  • C.COLOR
    All exposed surfaces of the holster will be black in color.
  • D.CONSTRUCTION
    • 1.The holster will be constructed of one or more pieces, properly molded and shaped to fit the firearm, and allow for attachment directly to prescribed duty belts.
    • 2.Rivets, screws, or other fasteners may be used in the construction of the holster.
      NOTE:
      Metal components of the holster will not come into contact with the firearm.
    • 3.Holsters will have a minimum of two manual retention devices, requiring deliberate manipulation by the shooter to defeat the retention device and free the firearm from the holster.
      NOTE:
      Acceptable manual retention device examples include two snaps, a single snap combined with a rocking motion or a rotating hood with sentry-type switch installed and in use.
  • E.FINISH
    The finish of the holster will be black in color, free of wrinkles or defects, and will be smooth without basket weave or high-gloss finish.
III.HOLSTER – UNIFORMED MEMBERS ASSIGNED TO ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES, CIVILIAN DRESS, AND OFF-DUTY MEMBERS HIRED AFTER 01 JANUARY 2008 – EXPOSED FIREARMS
  • A.DESIGN
    The holster will be designed so that:
    • 1.when the member is standing, the firearm will be in a vertical or near vertical position.
    • 2.the firearm is not canted in excess of 45 degrees in any direction.
    • 3.the bottom of the holster does not extend more than 10 inches below the top of the trouser.
    • 4.the holster hangs parallel to the outside seam of the trouser leg.
    • 5.the inside grip of the firearm does not extend more than 3 inches from the horizontal form of the holster’s shank.

  • A.DESIGN
    The holster will be designed so that the muzzle of the firearm does not extend more than ½ inch below the bottom of the holster.
  • B.MATERIALS
    Holsters may be constructed of leather, leather-like synthetic materials, or a rigid composite material including, but not limited to, Kydex, Zytel, or carbon-fiber.
  • C.COLOR
    Black or brown.
  • D.CONSTRUCTION
    • 1.The holster will be constructed of one or more pieces, properly molded and shaped to fit the firearm.
    • 2.Stitching, rivets, screws, or other fasteners may be used in the construction of the holster.
      NOTE:
      Metal components of the holster will not come into contact with the firearm.
    • 3.Holsters will have a minimum of one manual retention device, requiring deliberate manipulation by the shooter to defeat the retention device and free the firearm from the holster.
      NOTE:

IX.HOLSTER – AUXILIARY SUBCOMPACT SEMIAUTOMATIC PISTOLS – ANKLE AND POCKET HOLSTERS
  • A.ANKLE HOLSTER
    • 1.DESIGN:
      The holster will be designed so that the muzzle of the firearm does not extend more than ½ inch below the bottom of the holster. Ankle holsters will be designed and worn so that it is completely concealed by the bottom of the trousers.
    • 2.MATERIALS
      Holsters may be constructed of leather, leather-like synthetic materials, or a rigid composite material including, but not limited to, Kydex, Zytel, or carbon-fiber.
    • 3.COLOR

  • B.POCKET HOLSTER
    • 1.DESIGN:
      The holster will be designed so that the muzzle of the firearm does not extend more than ½ inch below the bottom of the holster. Pocket holsters will be designed and worn so that it is completely concealed within an appropriate garment pocket.
    • 2.MATERIALS
      Holsters may be constructed of leather, leather-like synthetic materials, or a rigid composite material including, but not limited to, Kydex, Zytel, or carbon-fiber.
    • 3.COLOR
      Assorted
    • 4.CONSTRUCTION
      • 1.The holster will be constructed of one or more pieces, properly molded and shaped to fit the firearm.
      • 2.Holsters will cover the trigger and trigger guard.
      • 3.Retaining strap or thumb-break device is optional.
      • 4.Open top holsters will be constructed so as to hold the firearm in place during activity.
