I.Uniform - Police Administrative Clerk
  • A.REQUIRED ITEMS:

  • C.DEPARTMENT APPROVED LONG SLEEVE SHIRT:
    • 1.Material: 65% polyester / 35% cotton, approximately 4.25 ounces per square yard. Light Blue #4532 or approved equal.
    • 2.Construction:
      • a.Collar: Will consist of leaf and stand of two-ply with interlining in both, with permanently sewn-in collar stays properly positioned in each collar point. Collar points will be approximately 3 inches in length, 1 ½ inches in height at the back. The collar will be top-stitched ¼ inch off the edge. The collar stand will measure approximately 1 3/8 inches in height at the back and have one button and buttonhole at the front. The collar and band will be die cut to ensure uniformity.
      • b.Collar Stay: The collar stays will be of good quality Stalar vinyl or mylar, approximately 2 ½ inches in length and 3/8 inch wide.
      • c.Yoke: The back will have a double yoke.
      • d.Placket Front: Left front will have 1 ½ inch turned-back salvage edge facing along front edge with seven well-sewn buttonholes. Buttonholes will be spaced approximately 3 ¾ inches from the edge. The second buttonhole is to be positioned approximately 3 inches from the top button, the balance of buttons will be spaced approximately 3 ¼ inches apart. Right front to have a 1 inch hemmed self-button piece along front edge with seven buttons to correspond with the left front buttonholes. Buttons are to be strongly attached through two thicknesses of material forming the right front and will correspond to each buttonhole. Manufacturers will use a placket front.
      • e.Sleeves: Sleeves will be cut straight and whole with a 5 ½ inches sleeve vent. Sleeve vents will have a top facing approximately 1 1/8 inches wide finished at the top with a neatly blocked point. One buttonhole will be placed approximately 2 ½ inches above the top of the cuff with a corresponding button on the lower facing. The lower facing will measure approximately ½ inch in width. The cuff will measure approximately 2 ¾ inches with rounded corners. There will be two buttons with corresponding buttonholes in the sleeve facing.
      • f.Pockets: The shirt will have two breast pockets with a 1 ½ inches stitched down box pleat stitched top and bottom to prevent spreading. The pocket will finish approximately 5 5/8 inches wide and 6 inches deep and have mitered corners. Velcro (hook) tab approximately 3/8 inch wide and 1 inch long will be placed on each pocket to secure Velcro (soft) tab placed on each flap.
      • g.Pocket Flaps: Two contrasting pocket flaps, navy blue in color. Pocket flaps will be die cut and scalloped with a finish approximately 5 5/8 inches in length, 2 ¾ inches in width at the center, and 2 ¼ inches at each side. Flaps will secure approximately ½ inch above top of pocket. The left flap will have a pencil opening approximately 1 ¼ inches wide. Velcro (soft) tabs will be placed on edges of each underside of flap to secure to Velcro (hook) tabs placed on pockets. Flaps will have one centered button hole with 20 ligne matching navy blue button.
      • h.Buttons: Seven, four hole, 20 ligne light navy blue buttons securely sewn on front corresponding to button holes.
      • i.Shoulder Epaulets: Navy blue in color to match pocket flaps. Epaulets will be sewn into sleevehead seam and measure approximately 2 ¼ inches tapering to 1 7/16 inches with end pointed ending ½ inch from collar and fastened with one 20 ligne matching navy blue button. Epaulets will be box stitched to shoulders with a row of cross stitching 2 ½ inches from sleeve head and diagonally sewn from each end of the seam to the sleeve. Shoulder epaulets will be die cut and die creased.
      • j.Sewing: Collars, shoulder epaulets, and flaps will be single stitched ¼ inch from the edge. Sleeve insertion and side closing will be safety stitched. All sewing will be 100% Dacron color matching threads.
      • k.Nameplate Reinforcement: Two eyelets will be spaced 1 5/8 inches apart and will be placed 7/8 inch above the top edge of the pocket flap on the right breast, centered. Reinforcement material will not exceed 2 ¼ inches by ½ inch. The thread for the eyelets will be of the same color and be colorfast.
      • l.Interlining: Collars and flaps will be interlined with Stabilized Mello Press interlining, or Dacron taffeta full count 250 denier in collar, and 150 denier in collar band.
      • m.Permanent Creases: Five permanent sharp military creases are to be sewn into the shirt with an additional two sleeve creases pressed into the shirt. Two creases on the front are to be centered vertically through each pocket and flap and three proportionately spaced creases on the back. Creases on both sleeves are to be centered on the middle of the shoulder epaulet. Sleeve creases will not be sewn in. Creases in cotton blend shirts will be formed using a Lintrack-style permanent crease.
      • n.Size Markings: Size shall be marked on the inside of collar stand and on outside of left front tail.
      • o.Pressing: Shirts will be carefully pressed in a first-class manner.

  • D.DEPARTMENT APPROVED INSIGNIA:
    • 1.Police Administrative Clerk Shoulder Patch:
      • a.Design: Rectangular shaped patch with rounded upper corners, with Chicago Seal, the words “CITY OF CHICAGO” above and the words “POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK” below.
      • b.Material: Polyester/cotton: 65 / 35%, permanent press, white. Simpsons 1202, or an approved equal.
      • c.Color: All colors must be vat dyed to withstand laundering and dry cleaning. There will be no running, bleeding or fading of color.
      • d.Construction:
        • (1)Shape: A rectangle is drafted with the vertical dimension of 4 inches by a horizontal dimension of 3 1/2 inches. The upper corners are curved to create a single arch across the top of the patch.
          • (a)The City of Chicago Seal will be embroidered above center of the patch and will measure 2 inches in diameter. This dimension will include a 1/16 inch circular border.
          • (b)The words “CITY OF CHICAGO” are to be positioned within the upper portion of the patch, and all letters will be equidistant from the merrowed border and the outer edge of the City of Chicago Seal arc. Letters are to be read from left to right on an arc which is parallel to the City of Chicago Seal circular border. Each letter will be 7/16 inches high and 5/16 inches wide.
          • (c)The letters of the words “POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK” will be positioned in an upright position. Centered, will be the word "ADMINISTRATIVE." "POLICE will be over and "CLERK" will be under. All letters of the words are to be approximately 1/4 inch in height and 3/16 inch wide. A 1/8 inch roiled merrowed border will be stitched on the outer edge of the patch. A 1/4 inch overlap will complete the merrowed border and the loose ends of the stitching will be secured to the back side of the patch.
        • (2)Backing: The underside (back) of the shoulder patch is to be laminated to ensure stiffness. Laminated polyester/cotton shoulder patches must have at least one layer of Crinolene (Olc), or equal. Heat seal laminations are not acceptable. There will be no puckering or bunching of the exposed side of the patch.
        • (3)Embroidery:
          • (a)The words “CITY OF CHICAGO”, “POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK”, and merrowed borders will be dark blue.
          • (b)Embroidery/color details of the City of Chicago Seal are as follows:
            • i)Dark Gold FD-B73
            • ii)Light Gold FD-78
            • iii)Dark Blue FD-3
            • iv)Light Blue FD-9
            • v)Red FD-17

              • a)The words "URBS IN HORTO" within the red banner are to be replaced with light gold stitching.
              • b)Where applicable, only light gold is to be utilized in the embroidery of the City of Chicago Seal.
        • (4)Finishing: Professional finish and workmanship with laser cutting to exact size and shape of the approved design.
      • e.Location: Unless otherwise specified, the Police Administrative Clerk shoulder patch will be sewn on all shirts and sweaters. All patches will be centered on the left sleeve 3/4 inch below the outer shoulder sleeve seam and be sewn on with thread that closely resembles the outer border of the patch.
    • 2.City of Chicago Flag Patch:
      • a.Design: Rectangular patch of the flag of the City of Chicago.
      • b.Materials:
        • (1)Polyester/cotton: 65 / 35% Dacron/cotton, permanent press, white, Simpsons Parity Poplin
        • (2)Polyester/cotton: 65 / 35% Dacron/cotton, permanent press, white, Klopman’s Concept
        • (3)Polyester/cotton: 65 / 35% Dacron/cotton, permanent press, white, Reeves Parity Poplin
      • c.Color: All colors must be vat dyed to withstand laundering and dry cleaning. There shall be no running, bleeding or fading of color. The border will be merrowed with gold edge, 1 ¼ inch overlap, so that there are no loose ends.
      • d.Construction:
        • (1)Shape: Patch will measure 2 ¼ inches high x 3 ½ inches long.
        • (2)Backing: The underside (back) of the shoulder patch is to be laminated to ensure stiffness. Laminated polyester/cotton shoulder patches must have at least one layer of Crinolene (Olc), or equal. Heat seal laminations are not acceptable.
        • (3)Embroidery:
          • (a)Stripe width, outside top and bottom, cloth material background white, ¼ inch width.
          • (b)Stripe width, middle, cloth material background, white, ¾ inch width with four bright red stars (red rayon #32) with sharp points, six in number, set side-by-side, close together.
          • (c)Stripe width--inside top and bottom--copen blue, embroidery, 3/8 inch width.
          • (d)Star size, 3/8 inch from tip-to-tip, red embroidery.
          • (e)Center of outside stars, 1 inch from outside of merrowed border.
          • (f)Center of inside stars 1 ½ inches from outside of merrowed border.
        • (4)Finishing: Professional finish and workmanship with laser cutting to exact size and shape of the approved design.
      • e.Location: Unless otherwise specified, worn on all uniform shirts and sweaters and will be positioned 1 ½ inches below the right shoulder seam.
    • 3.Police Administrative Clerk Chest Patch:
      • a.Design: Rectangular shaped patch with the words “POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK” embroidered.
      • b.Material: Polyester/cotton: 65 / 35%, permanent press, white. Simpsons 1202, or an approved equal.
      • c.Color: Background will be white, all lettering and merrowed border will be dark blue. All colors must be vat dyed to withstand laundering and dry cleaning. There will be no running, bleeding or fading of color.
      • d.Construction:
        • (1)Shape: Patch will measure 2 inches high x 4 inches long.
        • (2)Backing: The underside (back) of the shoulder patch is to be laminated to ensure stiffness. Laminated polyester/cotton shoulder patches must have at least one layer of Crinolene (Olc), or equal. Heat seal laminations are not acceptable. There will be no puckering or bunching of the exposed side of the patch.
        • (3)Embroidery: The letters of the words “POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK” will be positioned in an upright position. Centered will be the word "ADMINISTRATIVE." "POLICE will be over and "CLERK" will be under. All letters of the words are to be approximately 3/8inch in height and 3/16 inch wide. A 1/8 inch roiled merrowed border will be stitched on the outer edge of the patch. A 1/4 inch overlap will complete the merrowed border and the loose ends of the stitching will be secured to the back side of the patch.
        • (4)Finishing: Professional finish and workmanship with laser cutting to exact size and shape of the approved design.
      • e.Location: Unless otherwise specified, the Police Administrative Clerk chest patch will be sewn on all shirts in the location designated for a star. All patches will be sewn on with thread that closely resembles the outer border of the patch.
