I.Purpose
This notice:
  • A.informs Department sworn and civilian members of the Chicago Police Department Stress Management Training Program.
  • B.outlines procedures for participation in the Stress Management Training Program.
  • C.initiates the use of the Stress Management Training Application form (CPD-11.667) attached to this directive.
  • D.initiates the use of the Training Program Attendance Sheet form (CPD-11.668).
II.Program
The Stress Management Training Program is designed to enable members to identify their individual stressors, as well as to develop coping strategies for healthy, daily living.
III.General Information
  • A.Stress Management Training Program is being presented by the City of Chicago, Department of Human Resources, Consulting and Training Service and the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7. Participation in the Stress Management Training Program is strictly voluntary, and members will be assigned in the order applications are received. Members will receive a letter of acceptance fourteen days prior to the beginning of the class session. All necessary materials will be provided at the class session.
  • B.The Stress Management Training Program session will be conducted on two consecutive days. There will be two scheduled sessions each month, and each session will be limited to fifteen participants. A sworn members participation in the Stress Management Training Program will not be considered one of the three in-service training sessions articulated in the provisions of Article 20.7 and 20.9 of the Agreement between the City of Chicago and the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7.
  • C.Department members attending the program during a regularly scheduled workday will be carried code 049 on the Attendance and Assignment Record (CPD -11.605) in their district/unit of assignment. This will be considered a member’s regular tour of duty for the day. If a member is scheduled to attend the Stress Management Training Program on his regular day off he will be carried code 080, however he will not be eligible for overtime pay or compensation.
  • D.Training sessions will be conducted Monday through Friday from 0830 to 1630 hours at the  DePaul Centre .
  • E.Department members attending training sessions will wear casual attire.
IV.Procedures
  • A.To participate in the Stress Management Training Program, a department member will:
    • 1.read and complete the Stress Management Training Application form attached to this directive and affix his signature in the appropriate box. Submit the complete application to his unit commander/command staff member for approval. Application forms may also be obtained by contacting the office of the  Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7 .
    • 2.forward the approved application via police mail to  Stress Management Coordinators, Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7 .
  • B.When a member arrives at the Stress Management Training Session he will affix his signature on the Training Program Attendance Sheet (CPD -11. 668) and indicate the time of arrival. At the conclusion of each session the member will indicate the time of departure. The Training program Attendance sheets will be retained at the office of the Departments Professional Counseling Service in accordance with existing records retention requirements.
  • C.When a Department member must cancel attendance at the Stress Management Training Program he will:
    • 1.notify the office of the  Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7 , or the Department’s  Professional Counseling Service .
    • 2.notify the watch commander in his unit of assignment. If a member scheduled on his regular day off however, he will not be required to make notification to the watch commander.
    • 3.be reassigned to the Stress Management Training Program after all other applicants have been scheduled to attend.
