Chicago Public Schools – Entering During Closed Hours/Notifications

This directive continues procedures to be followed when Department members:
  • A.are required to enter a Chicago public school building which is closed and/or
  • B.when crimes or arrests occur on public school property.
  • A.Members will notify the  CPS Emergency Control Center in any of the following circumstances:
    • 1.To enter a closed and secured Chicago public school building for the purpose of checking the premises for any reason. Arrangements will then be made for entering the building.
    • 2.To enter a Chicago public school building which has been closed and secured, but into which forced entry has been made (window broken, door forced open, etc.), after checking the premises.
    • 3.When an arrest has been made for a crime committed on or against public school property.
  • B.The arresting officer will request that the school property security inspector, designated for the particular school, be contacted to sign the appropriate Court Complaint form.
