I.Purpose
This directive delineates procedures to be followed in processing subpoenas issued by the Juvenile Court.
II.Procedures
  • A.All subpoenas issued by the Juvenile Court for Department members will be received and processed by personnel assigned to the Youth Investigations Section, Juvenile Court Liaison Section.
  • B.Youth Investigations Section, Juvenile Court Liaison Section personnel will forward the original and one copy of each subpoena and one copy of the Warrant and Subpoena Control form (CPD-24.440) to the commanding officer of this subpoenaed members(s) via the Police Document Service Section mail delivery.
  • C.Unit commanding officers will ensure that:
    • 1.the subpoenaed member is given the subpoena copy.
    • 2.the date received and date served or date returned boxes of the Warrant and Subpoena Control form are completed.
    • 3.the original subpoena and the completed Warrant and Subpoena Control form are returned to the Commander, Youth Investigations Section no less than five days prior to the scheduled court date.
    • 4.in the event that the subpoena cannot be served (member on furlough, extended medical roll, etc.), this fact is noted on the Warrant and Subpoena Control form and that it is returned to the Commander, Youth Investigations Section with both copies of the subpoena.
  • D.Subpoenas Directed to Private Citizens
    Subpoenas issued by the Juvenile Court to private citizens will be personally served by personnel assigned to the Cook County Sheriffs Department.
