I.Purpose
This directive:
  • A.continues the Department Traffic Safety Program.
  • B.outlines the responsibilities of the Department Traffic Safety and Training Unit.
II.Objectives
The objectives of the Department Traffic Safety Program are to:
  • A.promote safe driving practices.
  • B.reduce the frequency of Department traffic accidents.
  • C.reduce the severity of Department traffic accidents.
III.Department Traffic Safety and Training Unit Responsibilities
  • A.The Commanding Officer, Department Traffic Safety and Training Unit will serve as the Department Traffic Safety Officer and will administer the Department Traffic Safety Program.
  • B.The Department Traffic Safety and Training Unit will:
    • 1.conduct the Peak Performance Driver Training Program at the recruit level and for personnel attending in-service training.
    • 2.maintain a file of records for Traffic Pursuit Reports (CPD-22.958).
    • 3.distribute traffic safety materials such as bulletins, posters announcements, pamphlets, films, photographs, etc., emphasizing the importance of traffic safety.
    • 4.conduct Department traffic safety surveys and inspections.
    • 5.identify and evaluate Department traffic safety problems and establish safe driving standards.
    • 6.maintain a file of records of traffic accidents involving Department members and equipment including Traffic Accident Reports (CPD-22.110), Police Vehicle Accident Records (CPD-22.950) and Vehicle Accident or Damage Reports (CPD-22.951).
    • 7.issue periodic reports of traffic accidents involving Department members and equipment.
