I.Purpose

This directive outlines procedures for immediate notification to be made when members run inquiries through National Crime Information Center (NCIC) relative to a federal offender under supervision.
II.General Information
  • A.The US Probation Office for the Northern District of Illinois is participating in the Supervised Release File (SRF) component in NCIC. SRF is a Hot File within NCIC which alerts law enforcement personnel when they are dealing with federal offender(s).
  • B. Whenever an inquiry is made through NCIC (e.g., record check, wanted person check, or driver’s history), law enforcement and the probation office will be notified through an NCIC response which will provide the name and contact number of the offender’s probation officer.
III.Procedures
  • A.When an NCIC response indicates contact made with a federal offender under supervision, Department members will:
    • 1.notify the US Probation Officer – Chicago office, as indicated on the NCIC response.
    • 2.cooperate with all follow up inquiries made by the US Probation Officer.
  • B.Supervisors will ensure that Department members are available for the US Probation Officer’s inquiries.
