I.BODY ARMOR - OVERSHIRT CARRIER
  • A.DESIGN:
    This garment is a removable ballistic panel carrier that is collarless, sleeveless, and tailless. The overshirt will be constructed with the same specifications as that of an authorized uniform shirt described in Uniform Specification "Shirts - Long/Short Sleeves." The overshirt carrier is designed to be worn over the authorized uniform shirt.
  • B.MATERIAL:
    The carrier will be constructed from 100% Cordura nylon.
  • C.COLOR:
    Black
  • D.CONSTRUCTION:
    The overshirt carrier will be constructed using the same specifications as the authorized uniform shirt with functional chest pockets, star and name reinforcements, buttons, and epaulets.
    • 1.Ballistic Plate Pouch: An inner pouch, measuring approximately 5 inches by 8 inches, which will accommodate the insertion and removal of an approved chest plate, will be sewn on center of the reverse side of the front facing of the front ballistic carrier pocket.
    • 2.Sewing: Shoulder straps, pocket flaps, and sleeveless arm openings will be stitched approximately ¼ inch from all edges. All colorfast thread shall be color matching 100% Dacron.
    • 3.Buttons: Buttons will be first-grade, black plastic and 19 ligne.
    • 4.Fasteners: The carrier will close on each side with hook and pile fasteners.
    • 5.Slit Pockets: The carrier may have two slit pockets sewn into the carrier, one beneath each shirt pocket. Slit pockets will be the same width as the chest pockets.
    • 6.Embroidery: Overshirt carriers may display the embroidered star, name, unit designator, and “POLICE” patch as described in Uniform Specification "Insignia - Embroidered Patches."
  • E.MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS/LABELS:
    All garments will be permanently labeled with the manufacturer name, country of origin, size, fiber content, and care instructions. A label indicating that the garment is a Chicago Police Department approved item will be sewn on the underside left pocket flap. The label will include the date of manufacture. The label stitching will not be visible on the flap front. No manufacturer or representative may suggest that a garment is an approved Chicago Police Department garment without prior inspection of a completed sample and written authorization of the Director, Research and Development Division, Chicago Police Department.
  • F.RESTICTIONS AND AUTHORIZATIONS:
    The following items are not authorized to be attached to the overshirt carrier:
    • 1.firearm and holster;
    • 2.expandable baton and scabbard;
    • 3.taser and holster; and
    • 4.personal OC chemical device and holder.
II.BODY ARMOR - MOLLE OVERSHIRT CARRIER
  • A.DESIGN:
    This garment is a removable ballistic panel carrier that is collarless, sleeveless, and tailless. The overshirt carrier is designed to be worn over the authorized uniform shirt. The MOLLE overshirt carrier will allow for two horizontal rows of military specification MOLLE attachments. Firearm holsters will not be attached to the MOLLE overshirt vest carrier. MOLLE attachments will not obstruct star or name and unit designators.
  • B.MATERIAL:
    The carrier will be constructed from 100% Cordura nylon.
  • C.COLOR:
    Black
  • D.CONSTRUCTION:
    • 1.MOLLE Strapping: MOLLE straps will begin 1½ inches beneath the bottom points of the embroidered star. MOLLE strapping will conform to military specifications, with straps being 1 inch wide, spaces between straps being 1 inch, and straps being sewn down at exactly 1½ inches intervals. Horizontal rows of nylon straps will continue to the bottom of the vest. The last strap will be above the bottom hemline of the vest.
    • 2.Ballistic Plate Pouch: An inner pouch, measuring approximately 5 inches by 8 inches, which will accommodate the insertion and removal of an approved chest plate, will be sewn on center of the reverse side of the front facing of the front ballistic carrier pocket.
    • 3.Pen Pocket: A pocket will be sewn into the front of the carrier to accommodate two pens. This pocket will be 1 ¾ inches wide and be located immediately to the right of the star’s right bottom point, from the wearer’s perspective.
    • 4.Sewing: Shoulder straps and sleeveless arm openings will be stitched approximately ¼ inch from all edges. All colorfast thread shall be color matching 100% Dacron.
    • 5.Fasteners: The carrier will close on each side with hook and loop fasteners.
    • 6.Embroidery: All MOLLE overshirt carriers will display the embroidered star, name, unit designator, and “POLICE” patch as described in Uniform Specification "Insignia - Embroidered Patches."
  • E.MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS/LABELS:
