Daylight Saving Time and Standard Time

I.Purpose
This directive informs Department members of procedures related to twice yearly time changes.
II.Procedures
  • A.Daylight Saving Time
    • 1.Daylight Saving Time begins on the second Sunday in March at 0200 hours.
    • 2.At 0200 hours all clocks in the Department will be set ahead one hour to 0300 hours.
    • 3.Compensatory time will not be deducted for the hour not worked because of the time conversion.
    • 4.Effective with the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, all Department members will keep orders and records in accordance with Daylight Saving Time.
  • B.Standard Time
    • 1.Standard Time begins on the first Sunday in November at 0200 hours.
    • 2.At 0200 hours all clocks in the Department will be set back one hour to 0100 hours.
    • 3.Overtime for extended tours of duty will be authorized by the unit commanding officer, when necessary, to meet operational demands.
    • 4.Effective with the beginning of Standard Time, all Department members will keep orders and records in accordance with Standard Time.
III.Unit Commanding Officer Responsibilities
Unit commanding officers will ensure that:
  • A.a copy of this directive is inserted in the timekeeping manual.
  • B.a notice identifying the time change is posted in the unit Commanding Officer’s Book and read at roll calls.
  • C.the scheduled watch assignments on watches affected by a time change minimize the number of members working extended tours.
  • D.extended tours are authorized, when necessary, to meet operational demands. Overtime will be credited in those instances when members work in excess of their regular tour.
