I.UNIFORM - BDU
  • A.DESIGN:
    Black two-piece military-style shirt and trouser uniform. The shirt will have a mandarin-style collar, two slated chest pockets with flaps, a hemmed square tail, hemmed cuffs with adjustment tabs, shoulder epaulets and elbow patches. The trouser will be a military standard style, with two side adjuster straps. There will be six pockets on each pair of trousers. There will be two side pockets, two hip pockets with flaps, and two slanted, flap pocket cargo pockets on each outside pant leg. The trousers will have a seat and crotch patch, knee patches, and drawstring straps at the bottom of the pant leg for cinching. The uniform will have a Marine-style fatigue cap.
  • B.MATERIALS:
    • 1.65% / 35% polyester/combed cotton Ripstop, 6.3 ounces - 8.7 ounces
    • 2.All threads used will be of heavy duty polyester or equal cord.
  • C.COLOR:
    Black
  • D.CONSTRUCTION:
    • 1.Shirt:
      • a.Front: Hemmed right panel with front facing. Right front facings folded 2 ½ inches and stitched ¼ inch from serged edge. Left front facing will be folded 2 ¼ inches and stitched ¼ inch from the serged edge. Black zipper closure Front facing secured to left panel with hook and loop.
      • b.Collar: Military-styled mandarin collar, 2 inches in height, adjustable and secured by hook and loop.
      • c.Pockets: Two slanted chest pockets 6 ¼ inches by 6 inches. Two pocket flaps 6 ¼ inches by 1 ½ inches, secured with hook and loop. The pocket will be top stitched 1/16 inch through all fabric on inside edge closest to shirt center. All pocket flaps will be topstitched approximately ¼ inch. The upper portion of each sleeve may have a single pocket, approximately 5 inches by 7 inches. The pocket will have a flap approximately 5 inches by 2 inches that is held closed by hook and loop. The outside surface of each upper arm pocket may be covered in loop material. The lower left arm may have a pocket designed for holding a maximum of three pens.
      • d.Epaulets: The epaulet will be two-ply of base fabric with woven interfacing and sewn to the body of the garment at both ends.
      • e.Sleeve: Sleeves will have a hemmed cuff, a full size arm with an elbow patch that measures a minimum of 8 inches by 10 ½ inches and a maximum of 9 inches by 11 ½ inches. The length and width will depend on the size of the garment. The bottom of the sleeve will be adjustable with a tab secured by hook and loop.
      • f.Seams: All stress seams will be felled and double stitched without any visible raw edges.
      • g.Insignia:
        • (1)Shirts will have the CPD patch sewn onto the left shoulder pocket. The patch will have a vertical dimension of 4 inches by a horizontal dimension of 4 3/8 inches (full size). The patch will be centered on the left pocket and be sewn on with black thread. The patch will be black and grey (subdued) in color.
        • (2)Shirts will have the Chicago flag patch sewn onto the right sleeve pocket. Patch will measure 2 ¼ inches high x 3 ½ inches long. The patch will be positioned 1 ½ inches below the right shoulder pocket flap. The patch will be black and grey (subdued) in color.
        • (3)Above the right (wearer's) breast pocket will be sewn a patch with the member's last name. Patch will be 1 1/4 inches in height by 4 1/4 inches in length and will be black in color. Centered on the patch will be the member's correct last name in 1/2 inch block font, all capital letters. Thread color will be grey (#650C)
        • (4)Above the left (wearer's) breast pocket will be sewn a patch with the member's star number. Patch will be 1 1/4 inches in height by 4 1/4 inches in length and will be black in color. Centered on the patch will be the member's correct star number in 1/2 inch block font. Thread color will be grey (#650C)
        • (5)Sergeants will have chevrons sewn onto both sleeves approximately 1/4 inch beneath the upper arm sleeve pockets. The patch will be black and grey (subdued) in color.
        • (6)Lieutenants will have their rank sewn onto the button fly of the shirt at a position that is half-way between the top portion and bottom portion of the chest pocket flaps. Patch overall size will be 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The patch will be black and grey (subdued) in color.
      • h.Labels: Size, fabric content, and care labels will be securely attached inside garment.
    • 2.Trouser:
      • a.Front pockets: Front pockets will have the side slash design, with quarter top opening of approximately 6 ½ inches. The front edge will be topstitched 3/8 inch. The pockets will have a facing of base fabric. The pockets will be 12 inches or 13 inches deep depending on the size of the trouser. The bottom edges of the pocket bag will have a professionally serged edge.
      • b.Hip Pockets: The hip pockets will measure 5 ½ inches wide with a single welt cut. The hip pocket will have a flap attached by insertion. The pocket flap will be secured by hook and loop. The flap will be of rectangular shape approximately 5 5/8 inches wide and 2 3/8 inches deep. The flap will be topstitched ¼ inch.
      • c.Cargo Pockets: The cargo pockets will have bellowed pockets that measure approximately 8 ¾ inches wide and 9 ½ inches long with square bottoms. Form the bellows by folding. The three folds will measure approximately 2 ¾ inches wide when laying flat and expanding approximately 1 ½ inches. The exposed edge of each fold will be top stitched with a seam margin of 1/16 inch. The pocket top will have a hem of 1 inch wide on the inside extending from top side to side and may be slanted downward towards the front of the pant. The flaps will be secured by hook and loop and will be rectangular in shape, measuring approximately 9 inches wide and 2 3/8 inches deep. The flaps will be set with double needle machine with a seam gauge of ¼ inch.
      • d.Lower Leg Pocket: The outside of the lower portion of each leg may have a single pocket measuring no larger than 4 inches by 7 inches with a flap measuring no more than 4 inches by 2 inches. The pocket will have a flap approximately 4 inches by 2 inches that is held closed by hook and loop.
      • e.Waistband: The waistband will be "grown on" style, not a separate piece. The waistband inside curtain will be a jean-style band measuring approximately 1 ½ inches wide when folded and stitched through to the outside. The inside band will be continuous around the entire trouser. The band will fasten with one four-hole button.
      • f.Belt Loops: There will be seven jean-style belt loops measuring approximately ½ inch wide. They will be top stitched with a double needle machine and folded at top and bottom then bar-tacked to the trouser. The loop will have an opening of approximately 2 3/8 inches.
      • g.Waist Adjusters: There will be a waist adjustment strap on each side with a black metal tongueless 2-bar buckle. The strap will be made from 100% cotton woven or polyester material measuring 5/8 inch width. The strap ends will be folded and bar-tacked to the trouser. The strap placement will allow for waist take-up to 1 ½ inches on each side.
      • h.Fly: The fly will have a right-side of base fabric. There will be four to five 30 ligne buttons sewn onto the right-side fly depending on the preferred crotch length. The left-side fly will have a hidden buttonhole panel lining of base fabric folded into a 2 inch width and the length will correspond with the length of the right-side fly. The top waistband buttonhole will be visible. The remaining buttonholes will be hidden by the outer fly.
      • i.Knee Patches: Each leg will have a front knee patch. The patch will be approximately 10 inches to 10 ¼ inches long and the width of the front of knee portion of trousers from seam to seam. Top stitch will set the knee patch to the leg panel at the top and bottom, then patches will be inserted into the inseam and outseams for closure. The front portion of the knee will be designed to accommodate fullness of the knee.
      • j.Seat Patch: The seat patch will be moon shaped of base fabric. It will be sewn to each back panel before assembly with a seam margin of 1/16 inch. The patch will start at the seat seam approximately 5 inches down from the trouser and end at the crotch seam. The patch will extend approximately 5 ¾ inches down each inseam.
      • k.Leg Hems: The finished bottoms hem will be approximately 1 inch. Attached are two 3/8 inch wide nylon draw strings fused and knotted ends, with sewn eyelet exit holes. Draw strings are tacked inside hem to prevent pull through.
      • l.Seams: Inseam, outseam, seat seam, and front crotch seam will have two needle felled construction.
      • m.Bar Tacks: All bar tacks will be ½ inch. Bar tacks will be placed at all stress points.
      • n.Labels: Size, fabric content, and care labels will be securely attached inside garment.
    • 3.BDU Cap:
      • a.Marine type
      • b.Two-ply construction with 8-point crown 2 ½ inches at front and 1 ½ inches at the back of cap. 1 inch, two-ply band of base fabric topstitched through the folded darts of each crown point. The top crown border of cap will be topstitchd 1/16 inch. Two sets of eyelets set 1 ½ inches apart on both sides of cap for ventilation. A baseball cap brim of buckroll covered with base fabric topstitched ½ inch apart. A miniature Chicago Police Department Patch in black and grey (subdued) will be centered in front of cap.
      • c.Patch Size: 2 ½ inches by 2 ½ inches
      • d.Cap Sizes: XS - XL
    • 4.Optional Alternate "Tactical Shirt":
      • a.Body: Body will be constructed from a smooth-finished, breathable, water-wicking, no melt fabric. The body will be free of pockets and epaulets.
      • b.Collar: Will be ¼ zip henley-style collar. When the collar is zipped up the lower half of the neck will be covered.
      • c.Pockets: All pocket flaps will be topstitched approximately ¼ inch. The upper portion of each sleeve may have a single pocket, approximately 5 inches by 7 inches. The pocket will have a flap approximately 5 inches by 2 inches that is held closed by hook and loop. The outside surface of each upper arm pocket may be covered in loop material. The lower left arm may have a pocket designed for holding a maximum of three pens.
      • d.Sleeve: 65% / 35% polyester/combed cotton Ripstop, 6.3 ounces - 8.7 ounces. Sleeves will have a hemmed cuff, a full size arm with an elbow patch that measures a minimum of 8 inches by 10 ½ inches and a maximum of 9 inches by 11 ½ inches. The length and width will depend on the size of the garment. The bottom of the sleeve will be adjustable with a tab secured by hook and loop.
      • e.Seams: All stress seams will be felled and double stitched without any visible raw edges.

      • g.Labels: Size, fabric content, and care labels will be securely attached inside garment.
    • 5.Optional BDU Winter Jacket
      The optional BDU winter jacket consists the Spiewak Model S1780 Tactical Response Jacket or equivalent and has:
      • a.a nylon outer shell or equivalent military-approved tactical fabric.
      • b.a hood.
      • c.hip-length coverage.
      • d.an accessible side zipper.
      • e.a zip-out liner.
      • f.Insignia:
        • (1)Shirts will have the CPD patch sewn onto the left shoulder pocket. The patch will have a vertical dimension of 4 inches by a horizontal dimension of 4 3/8 inches (full size). The patch will be centered on the left pocket and be sewn on with black thread. The patch will be black and grey (subdued) in color.
        • (2)Shirts will have the Chicago flag patch sewn onto the right sleeve pocket. Patch will measure 2 ¼ inches high x 3 ½ inches long. The patch will be positioned 1 ½ inches below the right shoulder pocket flap. The patch will be black and grey (subdued) in color.
